Profile:

1953 an art master at the Athlone Training School, Paarl: 1972 Inspector of Arts for the Cape. Has illustrated several books and in 1970 made a three-month study tour of the USA.

Amos Langdown’s penetrating, Daumieresque draughtsmanship has earned him glowing plaudits from critics and selection panels. Guided by the knowledgeable Katrine Harries , he was able to expand his technical repertoire by mastering the printingmedia. He revealed an instinctive sensitivity to their requirements – particularly those of lithography. His technical range was broad; he worked with comparable craftsmanship and sensibility in both linear and tonal composition. His social commentary was informed with pungent wit and sympathetic insight. He was also able to achieve considerable variety of mood within his small, figurative studies.

Exhibitions:

He has participated in group exhibitions from the 1950’s in West Germany, Italy , the USA and in SA; 1960 Cape Town, first of many solo exhibitions.
